Thanks for stopping by and visiting us on our sustainable journey! We’re Jason and Kylie, a couple of kiwi’s (that is, people from New Zealand – not the fruit!) who are currently travelling through the United Kingdom and Europe on a working holiday.
We are becoming more socially conscious of how our decisions and lifestyle choices are affecting the world around us; and are determined to make more of an effort in reducing our impact. We have a lot to learn, across all fields, from packaging materials, food sources, and renewable energies, to ethical companies, and carbon footprints.
This blog will record our journey to a more sustainable life, and we’re glad you’ve stopped by to check it out!
Why we have undertaken this journey
We’ve always been aware that our decisions have wider implications than their immediate effect on us, and we’re fairly conscious of the negative impact we have when engaging in certain activities such as using plastic bags, or consuming products containing palm oil.
However, even with the best intentions it can be incredibly hard to always get it right – especially when we don’t have the required knowledge to answer our own questions when choosing between different options.
We see our on-going education in this field, and subsequent lifestyle adjustments, as a journey; leading to a more sustainable and fulfilling future for ourselves, our families and our communities. This really is ‘Our Journey’ in the broadest sense.
Our main goal’s
When it comes to actively trying to live more consciously, it’s very easy to get overwhelmed, or feel like a hypocrite. We’ve taken some time to think about our main goals, which we refer to as our ‘Core Principles’ – our first blog post explores these in more detail [link to Core Principles post].
Basically, we’ve established these Core Principles as a guiding philosophy to how we want to live our everyday lives.
- Reduce Usage of Plastic
- Avoid Palm Oil (from non-sustainable sources)
- Purchase Locally
- Eat less meat
- Reduce food waste
This is by no means a definitive or exhaustive list; it’s just the start of our journey. Our future goals will include owning our own rural property where we can live off grid with renewable energy sources and our own vegetable garden.
Why we started this blog
We decided to start this blog as a way to push ourselves into becoming more conscious of our own decisions, and to hold ourselves accountable. It’s a place to pose our questions; as well as share the answers after carrying out some thorough research. That way, everyone wins, and it ensures we actually seek out the answers to our questions rather than just existing in a state of confusion.
The added benefit of sharing it here in a public blog is that anyone else who has similar interests is able to offer suggestions and help, follow along, and maybe even learn a thing or two along the way. If everyone was a little more conscious about their everyday decisions, we think the world would be in a much better place!
How you can follow along
We would love for you to accompany us on Our Sustainable Journey and there are a number of ways to do this:

How you can support us
Whilst we are writing this blog as a way to archive our own learning’s and share what we hope are interesting pieces of knowledge with everyone, to better the world, it does take a significant amount of upkeep. From writing content, to sharing articles, and paying for domains, web hosting, email service and themes; there is a lot of time and dollars involved.
Check out our Support page to see more details on what we have spent in terms of time and money in setting up and maintaining this blog, and details on how you can support us.
We’re not asking for money, simply your clicks. It’s as easy as clicking on a few links before making your next purchase online, or following a referral suggestion from us next time you need web hosting or another product we are affiliates for. Every little bit helps and with your support we hope to develop this blog into an amazing online space.
